You are absolutely right...twins and other multiple gestations are a huge risk factor for preterm birth and there is certainly nothing we can do about the natural occurence of twins. One can only make the best with minimizing stress, etc. I would love to hear more about yours and your friends' stories. When I was in med school in North Philadelphia in the 1980's I witnessed many women take crack in order to deliver early so my first impression of preterm birth was admittedly skewed. This tragedy left a permanent impression on me and I wrote a fiction story about it called "The Lifers". The story wasn't very good but maybe on revision...Thanks again for commenting and I would like to hear more.

You raise a number of good points.I am sure you ha...

You raise a number of good points.
I am sure you have experience to support your statement that there is a lot women can do to prevent prematurity. However, three of my friends had twins in the 26-28 week range. They were all healthy young women under thirty and being pregnant with twins, conceived naturally, was their only risk factor. I hate to think your statement is suggesting there was more these women could have done to have prevented their children being premature. Ditto for just about every other mom I met during my daughter's three month NICU stay.
I am also confused as to your statement that people have complete control over how they choose to die but suggest notarizing the advance directive to 'increase the likelihood' it will be taken seriously.
